I'm in a book club...
...and I love it.
Whatever book we're reading (this time it was Richard B. Wright's Giller Prize winning novel Clara Callan), for me, knowing that there were other people that I knew who would be reading the same thing as me, at the same time, was the best thing about it. Having the opportunity to express my opinions about what I'd read, and to listen to the opinions and feelings of the others in the group, was such a positive experience.
Our next book: The World According to Garp by John Irving, who is one of my favourite authors. He wrote this book in the late 1970s and they made a movie out of it that starred Robin Williams. As far as I know, Irving did not write that screenplay. He would later win an Oscar for writing the screenplay for another of his novels, The Cider House Rules. And then he wrote a non-fiction book about his adventures in movie writing.
Write on, writers, and we will read...
