Canadian Folk Moments

As an observer of people and the circumstances in which they find themselves, I've come to recognize shining pieces of time I like to call Canadian Folk Moments. I have a list of these moments, on scattered little pieces of paper stuck between pages of the books I was reading when they happened or folded inside my wallet or inside a CD case...and then I have some of them just floating around in my head waiting to be realized as Canadian Folk Moments.

One of my favourites happened at Hugh's Room in Toronto, as so many of them have: I was at the final New Foundation Monthly Show in May and a bunch of us were hanging around till the early morning, not wanting it to end. And then we sang. We sang (and stomped) Stan Rogers' Barrett's Privateers. We smiled, remembered the words and just sang our hearts out.

It was a beautiful moment, in a Canadian folky way.

Do you have one?
